It's been a fun packed weekend. Simon turned two this last
Thursday, and in accordance of the well known tradition, we threw Simon
a birthday party (anyone who has kids will tell you that throwing
birthday parties is essential, otherwise your kids will grow up feeling
that they lost out on all the fun, and will make up for lost time by
trashing your abode when they reach 16).
Lisa and I were up very
late on Friday night (into Saturday morning) preparing for the "John
Deere" theme party the next day. My in-laws came down on Friday
night, so Tina (my sister in-law) helped me mix colored icing to
decorate Simon's tractor cake, and then assisted me with decorating the
party room with green and yellow balloons, streamers, and John Deere
place mats (thanks to Lisa and Liz for making these).
The party went well, plenty of Simon's friends turned up to help him
celebrate his special day. I grilled hot dogs and burgers, Lisa
baked French fries, put together a host of dips, and fried up a batch
of corn dogs and funnel cake. I pulled out the tractor mower, and in
between courses gave the kids rides around the yard - it was like being
at the
Montgomery County Ag Fair, only no-one had to pay entrance fee, and we had no cows.
Many thanks to all those who helped with the preparation, running of
the party, and clean up. Simon wishes to thank all his guests for the
great birthday presents he received.
