Garretts' World

Happenings in the world of the Garretts'

May 1 - Weekend

I awoke on Saturday morning to rain pouring down the windows.  Normally I wouldn't care, especially since Simon had woken up every hour on Friday night and I could stay in bed, but Saturday was a practice riding day.  It has been a few weeks since I've been on horse back and I am dying to get back into the saddle.

Saturday daytime consisted of hanging out and watching the rain continue to come down.

Saturday evening - our turn to go out on the town. Our baby sitter watched Simon whilst Lisa and I went to the flix to see Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. I've been meaning to read the book, by Douglas Adams, for some time now. Being a geek, and a British geek at that,  I really should indulge myself.

I thought the film was really well done and comical, both Lisa and I loved it, pretty good considering that we have different taste in movies.  The plot is fairly easy to follow, and from what I understand, does follow the book.  However, about midway through the movie I found myself wondering where the plot was going, and how the story would end.  I won't spoil it for those who have not seen the movie, but the ending seemed rather "tada!" ish, almost like the director got bored and wanted a fitting ending.  I could swear there were some threads in the plot that were not tied up.  The movie inspired me to want to read the original book.

Following the movie we headed over to The Melting Pot to eat.  For those of you who have never been to one of these restaurants in the chain or never done fondue, I would totally recommend trying it.  This experience is definitely one of those where you leave the kids with the baby sitter.  The restaurant atmosphere is relaxed and romantic with dimmed lights, and patrons cook their own select choice of meat, vegetables and fish in a fondue pot.  Lisa and I went for the "fondue for two" - a three course meal consisting of a cheese fondue starter, Californian salad, and main course of duck, sirloin, pork, chicken and shrimp platter cooked in a mojo flavor pot.  For dessert  we tried one of the many chocolate fondue pots, with fruit, brownie and cheesecake sides for dipping.  All in all an awesome evening out.

Sunday - weather improved, so I took the opportunity to work out in the garden most of the day.
