Today, Lisa, Simon and I went downtown to DC to see the annual
Cherry Blossoms.
We usually try to get down to the tidal basin each year to see the
historical Japanese trees in full bloom, we missed last year but was
determined to see the trees this year. This was the first year
that Simon had seen the blooms, and so it was a lot of fun sharing this
experience with him.
Pictures can be found
here.

"Dad, I can see National Airport from here!"
After a picnic just off the edge of the basin we decided to let Simon
out of his stroller (a 2 year old loose beside water is never a good idea) to walk around, and what better place than the
FDR
memorial - historical, an open space to walk, picturesque, and more importantly.. complete with bathroom

.
Simon loved the FDR memorial, especially the waterfalls and granite
wall structure. Simon wanted to make sure that the FDRM was a
pleasurable place for everyone seeing the memorial after him, and so he
made sure that he collected every piece of trash and fallen leaf he
could find before leaving. At one point Simon started to collect fallen blossom
from the cherry trees, but decided there were far too many, so he took
enjoyment in throwing handfuls of them in the wind.

Simon found ways to pass the time when behind bars.
About middle afternoon we headed back towards home before rush hour
traffic started. Simon took a nap in the car. Once back home, all three
of us crashed for a couple of hours before beginning the evening. Lisa
and Simon hung out while I went to see a couple of friends of ours to
baby sit.
Tomorrow - there is more work to be done in the garden, perhaps some
tree maiming and mowing, if I get some time. Lisa and I want to get as
much work done this side of the summer before baby II arrives.
