Much more of an uplifting sort of day. Dress down day because it
is Friday, apparently everyone else got the memo because all my
colleagues were wearing blue jeans today. My team and I managed to get
a piece of software going that had been causing a lot of grief
throughout this week - a nice ending before the weekend.
On the way out of the office I got to meet Karen's (work colleague)
husband, who had just picked up a new
Mercedes Benz C230
in black, with
gray leather interior. I just love the look and smell of a new
car, the shiny paintwork, unblemished alloys and the smell from a new
leather interior. For a moment there I was dreaming that the car was
mine, until reality came crashing in on my dream like a group of drunk
gate crashers at an underage drinking party. I got to drive home
in my trusty V-dub
Jetta - somewhat less shiny and now only smelling
of the driver's bodily odors, but still punchy and fun to drive.
Played ball with Simon and Lisa at home after work. Whilst out Simon
met one of the neighbors, who came over riding her trike (she was like
5). Once upon a time kid's bicycles were simple devices with two
wheels (or three since it was a trike), a seat and steering. If you
were lucky you may have had a bell.
These days they come shipped with
all sorts of
whistles and bells, I had heard that some
have built in CD players, but this model only had buttons that lit up
and made sound effects. Simon was asked if he'd like to ride the
trike, and once seated was very interested in the "horn" button. When
it was time to return the trike to its rightful owner Simon was not too
keen with parting with the bike that made cool sounds.

"So how fast have you had this baby on an open stretch?".
"The ignition switch is somewhere here... I know it".
We all went out to dinner this evening. Lisa picked a great restaurant
- a diner sort of place that had a vast variety of selections on the
menu. Simon and I shared a meatloaf and Lisa had a blue cheese burger.
The meatloaf wasn't much to write about but the burger was to die
for. Simon was thrilled to be eating Mom's fries. On the
way out we picked up a slice of 6-layer chocolate cake for dessert and
waffled it down together in front of the TV this evening. I am
convinced that I didn't really know what real chocolate cake was until
I emigrated to the US

.
Tomorrow it is back to practice riding for
Saddle Guys and Gals. More on this later.
