Garretts' World

Happenings in the world of the Garretts'

Friday April 1

I came home yesterday evening to a very nice surprise, Lisa had arranged a surprise belated birthday party for me. Lisa knew that I would guess a party in February (my birthday month) because I threw one for her when she turned 30, so she planned the event in April so I'd never guess.

My friends Anton and Greg had taken me out for a beer after work last night while Lisa arranged for everyone at the house. Anton had told me that he had to go home early, so after happy hour I headed home. On the way home Lisa called me and asked me to go to the store to pick up some bread. I thought it strange that she'd call me at 7:30, when I had originally told her that I was going to be out until about 10pm, but figured she was calling me to leave a message for later. Later I found out that it was a ploy to stall for time because the guests hadn't yet arrived.

When I pulled into the driveway of the house it was like any other evening. I already knew that our friend Eva had came to visit and her car was the only one in the driveway, so I cruised straight into into the garage. I got my first indication that something was happening when I heard people from the garage. When I opened the door to the house I spotted Katie - daughter of of our friends Debbie and John. I was confused because I didn't see their car in the driveway. I then saw some more of my friends from work, and it was then that I knew I was the subject of a surprise party. I was half expecting everyone to say "April Fool!" and then go home, but instead they wished me a happy belated 30th birthday Smiley.

The party was awesome, many of my friends were there, some that I hadn't seen for a number of months. Lisa had done a great job with the food, drink and the guest list, I felt so loved.

Anton and Greg arrived shortly after I did - they totally got me Smiley

Many thanks to everyone who came to help me celebrate turning 30. Also I give my thanks to everyone who brought me gifts, I intend to get official thank-yous out in the mail soon. Lastly, thank you to those who wanted to attend but couldn't because of date conflicts, it means a lot to me that you wanted to help me celebrate my birthday.

Top top off the evening a few of us watched Triumph the Insult Comic Dog - a puppet dog reporter who features on Conan O'Brien's Late Show, after the party had wound down (it's a Y chromosome thing).

A great start to the weekend Smiley.
