Garretts' World

Happenings in the world of the Garretts'

Sun Feb 13

Okay, this is like the 3rd time that I've tried posting this article. The first time I managed to click the back button by mistake and the second time I opened a link from another application. In both cases the page in my browser changed and I lost what I had typed Grrrr.

So, as I was saying (again).....

Lisa and Simon are in Florida for a few weeks, with my Father-in-law, on vacation. Lisa's Dad likes to take off to somewhere hot in the winter months and invited us all this year. Unfortunately I had to remain in MD because of work. Sad

This weekend is the first since the family started their vacation, so I took advantage of this fact by opening a few beers, loading the MCE player with Rammstein and turning up the volume. That was a few hours ago, it's now gone 2am and I'm looking at a table of empties.

Managed to complete a few errands today, which included having the oil changed on both cars. While Lisa's Forester was in the shop I took the opportunity in taking out a new Subaru Impreza WRX 2005 for a test drive. I was little disappointed. The car did great, but the salesman only took me around residential areas with lots of stop signs. I don't think I made it out of 3rd gear. I really would have liked to open up the throttle on the highway to see how well the turbo charged engine performed.

I found the Impreza quite different to drive from my Jetta 1.8T. The Impreza seemed to have a lot of low end torque, so the power was available in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but it died away in 4th and 5th gear. My Jetta is the complete opposite, not much going on until 3rd gear kicks in. It was nice to be able to pull away from standstill without the lag I experience in my v-dub but I missed the ability to drive around town in 4th and 5th knowing I could punch the gas when cruising.

Ordered Lisa a nice fruit basket to be delivered on Valentine's day. I initially ordered through Interflora, but got very frustrated after entering all my details only to find that they declined my credit cards (yes all of them). I called the card companies and they told me all was good with my accounts. So, I left an email with Interflora and went with 1-800-flowers.com. I later got a call from Interflora telling me that their servers were down, which was why my credit card was declined. From what the guy was saying it sounded like it was normal for Interflora servers to be down on a Saturday at noon - that's got to be good for business - not! Anyhoo, the guy apologized for my inconvenience and gave me a 15% discount off my next purchase. I didn't tell him I went with another company, next time I'll have to remember to make the order in the middle of the night and not on a Saturday afternoon.

Well, beer buzz is wearing off, off to bed.....
