Simon and I visited the Mall in Washington DC today.
Our day started great when we found free parking right outside the Memorial - Simon was really impressed
. From Congressional Ave we headed off for the Mall, the Memorial was closed for renovation so we proceeded toward the Capitol.
After a spot of lunch I let Simon out of his stroller to run around on the Mall, the pigeons weren't so thrilled to have a 13 month old running in their space but Simon was thrilled. The residents and tourists riding bikes was a high point in the day for the little tourist.
We both sat around the reflecting pool, in front of the Capitol building, for a long refreshment - Simon had milk and I had bottled water. All was great until the milk ran out, at which point Dad was told to get walking in no uncertain terms.
Since it was right next door, we headed into the Botanical garden. It was a little humid among the greenery, so we didn't stay long, however we did get to see a newly wed couple, both dressed in white being photographed.
The day out was concluded with another play session on the Mall before heading back to the car and the trip up GW parkway.
The only unfortunate part of the day was that I left my camera at home, and many a good picture shot was missed, I was so bummed. Hopefully, Simon, Lisa and I will visit the Mall again soon, so that I can get some pictures next time. For now, here's a picture from the Capitol that I downloaded from the Internet.
